Privacy policy

This page explains what personal data NortheastMart handles when you order from a shop, why, who sees it, and what you can ask for. NortheastMart is run by NortheastMart ("we").

What we keep

• Your order: your name, mobile number, delivery address and pincode, the delivery time you chose, any note, and what you ordered.
• Payment details you choose to add: the UPI reference number and a payment screenshot. We never see your bank details or UPI PIN.
• Notifications, if you turn them on: an address from your browser's notification service (Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft), kept with that one order.
• Shops you follow: the same kind of notification address, kept with each shop you follow until you unfollow. We don't know your name or number from it. Shops only see how many followers they have.
• Visit counts: daily totals of how many people visited, where they came from (for example a shop's WhatsApp message or Google), what they searched for, and which shops and products they opened. To count each visitor once a day we make a one-way code from your internet address and browser with a key that changes every day; the code is deleted the next day and your internet address is not stored. No cookies are used for this.
• Shops asking to be listed: the shop's name, the owner's name and WhatsApp number, the area and the answers in the form.
• On your own phone, not on our server: your list of orders and your cart, so you can find them again. "Remove this list from the phone" on Your orders deletes it.
• Cookies: one that keeps the site working while you use it, and one that remembers your city. No advertising, tracking or analytics cookies.
• For shops: names and mobile numbers of the owner and helpers, PINs (stored scrambled, never readable), shop details and UPI ID.

Why

• To pass your order to the shop you chose, so it can confirm it, bill you and deliver it.
• To show you your order page and send the updates you asked for, and arrival notifications from shops you follow.
• To see, in totals only, how the site is used: which shops and products people look at and what they search for but can't find, so shops can stock what customers want.
• To keep the site safe, for example by counting wrong PINs or many orders from one connection.

We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising.

Who sees it

• The shop you order from sees your order with your name, number and address, and may message you on WhatsApp about it. The shop keeps its own record of your order for its accounts.
• The delivery service the shop books (Porter, Uber or its own rider) gets your address and number from the shop.
• Our admins can see orders to help when something goes wrong.
• Shops see visit totals for their own shop (how many people opened it, where they came from, which products they looked at), never who.
• Our hosting provider stores the data for us on its servers.

How long we keep it

• Orders are kept so the shop has a record of its sales and bills.
• Payment screenshots are deleted 120 days after the order is finished.
• Notification addresses for an order are deleted when the order is finished; those for a shop you follow when you unfollow, or when your browser says they no longer work.
• Visit codes are deleted the next day. Daily totals are kept.
• Records of logins and repeated attempts are deleted after 7 days.

Your rights

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, or to erase it, and to have a complaint dealt with. Some details may still be kept where the law requires it, for example on a shop's bills.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Under 18

NortheastMart is meant for adults. If you are under 18, please ask a parent to order for you.

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new date.
